John Dunlea's Picture Gallery.
John Dunlea worked as "Juliana's" DJ on the Australis
between June 26 and Dec 22 1977 right up to her final trip under the
Chandris flag. He left the ship when it docked in Auckland, and flew back to the UK the
following day. Like many of her ex-crew the Australis continues to hold a very special place in
John's heart, even to this day. When he looked at my Australis website he was heartbroken to see how the ship had finally
finished up. John wishes that he had visited the wreck when it was intact, to see her one last time
- just to pay his final respects. He said "at least the sea claimed her
instead of the breakers yard".

Many thanks to John Dunlea for his contribution to the site
Welcome all visitors to the S.S. Australis Website, which has now been online since 1998!
I will continue to update the site if I receive a new story, or if you have interesting photos taken on the ship during your voyage
on either the southbound, northbound, or on one of the South Pacific cruises. We used to do those trips several times a year
from Melbourne, Sydney and Auckland (New Zealand).
I am deeply moved by the interest and wonderful contributions from the numerous passengers and crew over many years.
You can send an e-mail to me on the link below:
A HUGE THANK YOU
Warm Regards
Ken
